A client brought in a car to our shop to perform a repair on the engine block of his BMW. The engine block was constructed out of cast magnesium alloy. This meant we had to use a welding process known as Tig which would help us with a great deal of welds to repair the castings. Fortunately, the issue with this particular engine block is not uncommon. Replacing a broken lug with weld beads to then re-thread and mount the object that broke off are all more common than joining pieces of magnesium together. Overall this took about a short day of work and when finished, it will driven off back home or back to the mechanic.
